The original PCDJ Karaoke software

We released our first professional karaoke software for hosting karaoke shows in 2002.

It was quite simply an add-on plugin for PCDJ RED VRM and FX VRM, our flagship DJ software products at the time. Truthfully it was an afterthought, a byproduct of other development projects we were working on at the time in the “bat cave”.

KJ VRM was the karaoke software, and after a few months and a notable spike in free demo downloads we realized that not only was karaoke software a viable product for PCDJ and pro KJ’s, it was something we should focus much of our development efforts on. KJ VRM was not only one of the first commercially sold karaoke software products on the planet, it was and still is many pro KJ’s karaoke software of choice.

It was simple, easy to use karaoke software that just worked. You had very simple rotation list, a key controller with semitone half steps, and could easily output the lyrics to a secondary monitor. That was it. For some time that “it” was enough.

Fast forward to 2012 and mp3+G karaoke software is a cornerstone of our business. PCDJ Karaoki is a top selling karaoke software globally, with excellent local representation in the UK, Europe, and Australasia. As KJ’s get used to technology, they also demand much more from their show hosting software of choice. PCDJ Karaoki now boasts additional features like singer history, pre-adjustment of key in the rotation list, news ticker and even an aptly named “drunk lock”. Many of these features were developed based on our user feedback throughout the years.

I know it sounds like a company line but we truly pride ourselves on keeping our collective ear to the ground. Listen to what the customers want, and they will be your best sales people!

I’ll be the first to admit, I can’t sing a lick! I’ve had a few private impromtu vocal sessions in my home office, usually producing an ear shattering harmony with the neighborhood’s 4 legged friends. But I’ve grown to enjoy the karaoke business and the people in it. I think this quote embodies why KJ’s make great beer mates beautifully:
